TSA hiring more security screening officers at Spokane International Airport

If you live in the Spokane area, this might be helpful to you.

SPOKANE, Wash.– Summer in the Inland Northwest is the busiest time of year, especially at the Spokane International Airport.

As more air travelers are coming in and out of Spokane International Airport, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is actively hiring more security screening officers with competitive benefits packages to prepare for a long line of air travelers.

“You have to allow more time now. You never know what’s going to be happening when you are traveling,” said Karen Passaro. “We had 45 minutes extra time just to make sure she wasn’t stressed.”

TSA at Spokane International Airport screens more than 6,000 travelers every day.

As more people fly, the TSA wants to make sure every checkpoint is fully staffed so you can get through quickly and safely.

“The growth at Spokane Airport is significant. A lot of travelers are coming in. We know that those travel volumes will be likely sustained throughout the fall and of course the holiday,” said Lorie Dankers, Spokesperson at TSA.

Dankers says they would like to recruit local people.

“We want to hire people who live in a community who would be on-site to screen travelers in the Spokane area whether you are a visitor or you live here and we don’t want to rely on resources from other parts of the country,” Dankers said.

They are looking to hire full and part-time spots, and are offering newly-hired officers several benefits.

“We are hiring a high incentive of 5,000 dollars for those coming on board at the end of the fiscal year at the end of September,” Dankers said.

No law enforcement or security experience is required for the job. However, background checks and drug screenings are a must.

Applicants must be 18 years or older, a U.S. citizen or national, and have at least a high school diploma.
