I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This was the book selected for the True Crime Book Club in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
I understand that Michelle was obsessed with this case. I read this book, I listened to this book, and I have watched the special on HBO.
I am not sure that I understand the hype. Yes, she researched this. Yes, she did give the title to the rapist/killer. However, I don’t feel that her writing was the hype that everyone is making it out to be. I don’t know that I might feel different if she had gotten to finish her book and set it up how she wanted.
When I read this, I feel so confused. It seems to be a lot of thoughts thrown down on paper, and it is really not in any kind of order that makes sense to me.
I really just feel that she was not ready for this to go to print, yet I understand why her husband wanted this.
When I think of this story and the resolution, I always see Paul Holes. He is the one that resolved this crime, in my mind.
I realize this is not the popular opinion.
