Travel Thursdays: The Little-Known Church Hiding In Washington That Is An Absolute Work Of Art.

by Sherri Adams

Nestled on the water’s edge in the small community of Fox Island, Washington, with sweeping views of the Olympic Mountains and Echo Bay, you’ll find the most charming little chapel you’ve ever seen. This historic chapel got its start more than 100 years ago when pioneer families from Iowa came to settle in Pierce County, becoming the first permanent colony on Fox Island. They set up and named their church the Congregational Church of Sylvan on an idyllic patch of waterfront land. In 1900 the tiny church was dedicated as The Chapel on Echo Bay, so named for the legend that claims that an echo will resound seven times over the bay before fading into silence. The little white chapel has seen a lot of changes over the years and is no longer being used as a house of worship, but it remains a popular wedding and event space for its romantic charm and beautiful setting. It doesn’t get more charming than this. It’s no wonder the Chapel at Echo Bay has become a popular venue for weddings and receptions.
