The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I rarely give 5 stars, as I feel I am pretty big critic on books (especially the ending). -Spoilers Ahead_
This book was wonderful. This was about a writer names Dateline, who loves the show Dateline. I immediately bonded with her, as I love Dateline and I love writing.
This story had two main story lines running through it. The main one was the plot that the author Wiley was writing for her story. It was the story of a family being murdered with one survivor. The author realized that the house that it had happened in was available and she went to stay there to write. She was having trouble at home with her marriage and felt this was a good escape. She submerged herself in the life of the family she was writing about.
The other story line was about a woman and a little girl that lived in dismal conditions and the father was always gone. He would come home for relations with the mother, and to drop off food. The father along you go in the story, you realize that they are being held in captivity. You see the story through the eyes of the child living there.
By the end of the novel, you see how the two stories intertwine. It was such a great read. I couldn’t put it down.
